Chairman Message
Ms. Wendy Lai
Chairman of Hong Kong Exhibition & Convention Industry Association
Welcome to Hong Kong Exhibition & Convention Industry Association (HKECIA). Our mission is to promote Hong Kong as a world-class exhibition and conference destination and the trade fair capital of Asia Pacific. We represent the interests of all members involved in the exhibition and convention industries, and provides a unified voice in dealing with the government, legislative and statutory bodies, the media and public organisations, on all matters associate with the role of the exhibition and convention industry in Hong Kong’s economy. By forging a genuine and collaborative partnership, we can harness our collective strengths to enhance our industry’s global competitiveness and build the resilience required to thrive in an increasingly complex environment.
Reflecting on our recent achievements, Hong Kong’s exhibition industry has demonstrated remarkable resilience and adaptability. We have seen a strong resurgence of large-scale exhibitions, with event numbers not only recovering but, in many cases, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. This is a clear testament to Hong Kong’s enduring appeal as a premier international business and trading platform. The Government’s timely and impactful incentive initiatives have played a critical role in this recovery, enabling organisers to launch innovative themed exhibitions while scaling up established flagship events. These collective efforts have further strengthened Hong Kong’s unique position as the MICE hub of the Greater Bay Area and reaffirmed our long-standing status as the Trade Fair Capital of Asia.
At the same time, we must acknowledge the challenges ahead. The global economic outlook remains uncertain, while shifting market dynamics and intensifying regional competition continue to present significant challenges. Against this backdrop, our mission remains clear and unwavering — to ensure that Hong Kong continues to serve as a leading international gateway connecting East and West. This will require us not only to reinforce the strength of our established trade fairs, which form the bedrock of our global reputation, but also to actively expand our international reach and enhance our value proposition to exhibitors and visitors alike.
Looking ahead, the Association stands ready to work hand in hand with the Government to develop forward-looking, sustainable support measures that will help the industry navigate volatility and seize emerging opportunities. With the passion, innovation and agility of our industry partners, I am confident that we will not only overcome the challenges before us, but also unlock new avenues for growth and elevate Hong Kong’s standing as a world-leading exhibition and trade hub.
In addition, we help our members to grow their networks and get involved in the larger competitive C&E hub through our close affiliations and connections. HKECIA is a member of UFI – The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, and AFECA – The Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Associations. We help improve networks of Hong Kong, Mainland China and international members through a wide range of events and channels.
The HKECIA also strives to promote sustainability and safety as well as support members with professional development, business networking, information exchange and promoting careers in our industry to emerging talents.
