HKECIA welcomes measures to support C&E industry in the 2023 Policy Address

(Hong Kong, 26 October 2023) The Hong Kong Exhibition & Convention Industry Association (HKECIA) welcomes the measures of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (the Government) to support the convention and exhibition (“C&E”) industry announced in the latest Policy Address which was delivered by the Chief Executive of HKSAR on 25 October 2023. The Government will continue to promote the development of the C&E industry, and will expand the C&E facilities, including the AsiaWorld-Expo and construction of new C&E facilities in Wan Chai North, raising the C&E space by 40% to 220,000 square metres in total.

The Government continues to implement the Incentive Scheme for Recurrent Exhibitions to provide incentives for staging recurrent exhibitions in Hong Kong. At the same time, the Hong Kong Tourism Board will continue to secure the staging of meetings, incentive travels, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) of different scales and types in Hong Kong through bidding for different major international MICE events and implementing different funding schemes.

Mr Stuart Bailey, HKECIA Chairman, commented, “The HKECIA welcomes Government’s support to C&E industry. We have seen gradual rebound of international trade fairs since March. The scale and attendance are expected to resume to pre-pandemic level next year. The incentives offered by the Government is therefore helpful to secure recurrent trade exhibitions, which are significant to sustain Hong Kong’s status of the Trade Fair Capital in Asia. The HKECIA will continue to update the Government of the development and situation of the industry and make timely proposals of how to support our industry, and hence facilitate recovery of Hong Kong’s economy at large.”
