Overview on West Kowloon Cultural District & the Exhibition Centre

Mr. Duncan Pescod, GBS, JP, Chief Executive Officer of West Kowloon Cultural District Authority

Construction of the West Kowloon Cultural District project is rapidly progressing and the next two years will see a number of major facilities like the Xiqu Centre, Art Park, Freespace and M+ opening to the public. With the Lyric Theatre Complex and Hong Kong Palace Museum now moving into their construction phase plans are already underway to begin the development of further facilities within the District, including the Exhibition Centre and its associated Hotel.

Mr Duncan Pescod will give an overview of this hugely ambitious project and offer an insight into how the District, which will match world class facilities and programming with a stunning location and excellent international and regional connectivity, can offer something for all its visitors – whether local, from the mainland or from abroad.

Economic Outlook 2018

Mr. Rocky Tung, Senior Economist of Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce

Hong Kong’s retail sector finally has something to cheer about after facing years of steady declining sales. The moderate growth in the inbound tourism sector in 2017 has given the economy some stronger momentum, while the tight labour market conditions have given a push to domestic consumption. However, with lingering uncertainties – such as the U.S. interest rate hike cycle and other geopolitical events – the economic outlook for 2018 remains murky at best.

In view of these economic trends at home and abroad, what should we expect for 2018?
