Conference Theme – Success, Sustainability and the Future

Understanding past success is often the key to achieving greater success in the future. With this in mind the HKCEC annual conference will take a look at some of Hong Kong’s most successful organisers and find out not only how they made it happen but also ask how their events are likely to evolve in the future. We will also take a look at some hot topics in the industry like waste reduction and find out how the HKRFU managed to halve the amount of waste produced by their annual event. Plus the latest news from Shenzhen where construction of one of the largest exhibition venues on the planet is underway and a look back 20 years at the completion of HKCEC (phase 2) and how a HK icon was created.

 The Future of Sourcing Events in Hong Kong

We are delighted to have Global Sources CEO Mr Craig Pepples come and speak for the first time at an HKECIA event on the topic of, The Future of Sourcing Events in Hong Kong. The presentation will explain why sourcing events are important to the Hong Kong exhibition industry and economy, and how infrastructure development of Hong Kong like the HK-Zhuhai-Macao bridge and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link would facilitate international buyers to attend sourcing shows in Hong Kong.

In 1978 Adsale was established in Hong Kong, today the Adsale Group has liaison offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Singapore, with over 250 staff. Over the past 39 years the business has developed significantly and boasts among the largest trade shows in China among their number. In this interview session, Stanley will give the benefit of his experience to show how Adsale achieved this success and look forward to where the groups’ future lies.

An Overview of the new development of the Shenzhen International Convention and Exhibition Centre (SZICEC) currently under construction

In this presentation, Mr. Mao will give us some updates on the new Convention & Exhibition Centre in Shenzhen, which will be the largest convention & exhibition centre upon completed in Phase Two.

20 Year Anniversary of Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre – The Soaring Bird

Ms. Monica Lee-Müller, Managing Director, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited

It’s difficult to imagine Hong Kong harbour without the iconic HKCEC with its distinctive shape, designed by architect Larry Oltmanns, sitting in the middle of it. Twenty years ago exactly (June 1997) the extension of the original HKCEC was completed, doubling the capacity of the centre’s event space at that time.  Ms. Monica Lee-Müller will talk about the history of the building, some of its first uses (the handover ceremony) and how the operation of the building has developed in the intervening years.
