3:30pm Overview of the Competition Ordinance & how it related to the Event Industry.
Ms. Melanie Tan, Senior Manager (Operations), Competition Commission
Ms. Kathleen Gooi, Manager (Operations), Competition Commission

Hong Kong’s Competition Ordinance (CO) came into full effect on 14 Dec 2015. During the preparation phase, the Competition Commission was established and guidelines, policies and other publications prepared. The CO serves to safeguard and enhance a competitive environment for consumers and businesses in Hong Kong by prohibiting anti-competitive conduct by businesses. The presentation will focus on an overview of the CO, the main prohibitions in the CO and the potential impact on the events industry, insights into the Commission’s enforcement priorities and tips for compliance.

Statutory Liabilities of Stakeholders in the Exhibition Industry

Mr. CW Chu, Principal Safety Consultant, Prowess Safety Consultants Limited

Safety and health legislations are enacted to protect employees who work in the Exhibition Industry. Stake holders in the trade who contravene the statutory requirement are subjected to prosecution by the enforcement authority. The victim or his/her beneficiary may sue for damages if there is negligence committed by the duty holder in an accident. The talk elaborates the statutes and common law that are applicable in the exhibition industry. It also elaborates the importance of establishing a safe system of work and safety training for workers.
